दुग्धप्रमाणम् - Proof of Milk

कृष्णदेवराजस्य सचिवः रामकृष्णः | सः बहु चतुरः | एकदा महाराजः रामकृष्णं पृच्छति - “मित्र, मम राज्ये सर्वाः प्रजाः बहु नीतियुताः | तव अभिप्रायः कः?” रामकृष्णः वदति - “महाराज, अस्मिन् राज्ये एकः अपि नीतियुतः नास्ति” | महाराजः कोपेन वदति - “कथं तव एवम् अभिप्रायः? तस्य प्रमाणं किम्?” रामकृष्णः वदति - “अस्तु | प्रमाणं दर्शयामि” |

रामकृष्णः राजभवने एकं बृहदाकारं घटं स्थापयति | सः घटस्य मुखे केवलं लघु रन्ध्रं करोति | सः राज्ये सर्वत्र घोषयति - “सर्वे जनाः राजभवनम् आगत्य घटे किञ्चित् दुग्धं पूरयन्तु” इति | जनाः तथा एव कुर्वन्ति | अनन्तरं रामकृष्णः घटम् उद्घाटयति | महाराजः अपि पश्यति | घटे केवलं जलम् अस्ति | किञ्चित् अपि दुग्धं न अस्ति |

रामकृष्णः वदति - “महाराज, पश्यतु | एकः अपि जनः घटे दुग्धं न पूरितवान् | प्रत्येकं जनस्य चिन्तनम् आसीत् - अन्ये जनाः दुग्धं पूरयन्ति | अहं तु जलम् एव पूरयामि | मम किञ्चित् जलं दुग्धे मिश्रणं भवति - इति | एतत् एव मम वचनस्य प्रमाणम्” |

महाराजः रामकृष्णस्य चातुर्यं दृष्ट्वा विस्मितः जातः |

English Meaning:
rAmakRshNa is the minister of kRshNadevarAja. He is very clever. Once the king asks rAmakRshNa - “Friend, in my kingdom, all the people are very honest. What is your opinion?” rAmakRshNa says - “King, in this kingdom, nobody is honest”. The king angrily says - “How come this is your opinion? What is its proof?” rAmakRshNa says - “OK. I will show the proof”.

rAmakRshNa keeps a big pot in the palace. He makes just a small hole in the face of the pot. He declares everywhere in the kingdom that - “all people should come to the palace and pour a little milk in the pot”. People do the same. After that, rAmakRshNa opens the pot. The king also looks upon. In the pot, there is only water. There is not even a little bit of milk.

rAmakRshNa says - “King, look. Not even a single person has poured milk in the pot. Every person’s thought was thus - other people will our in milk. But I will only pour water. My little water will get mixed up with the milk”. This is the proof of what I said”.

The king was surprised seeing rAmakRshNa's cleverness.
